Saturday was RGT night at Nottingham and we were pleased to be able to show our support to the wonderful work they do by sponsoring the evenings first race. The race ended in a dead heat between Mineola Chill and Homestead Bound. Unfortunately a good servant to our kennel , Zacharius Corey , picked up a minor injury in the race and will face a spell on the sidelines. There was a result on the night though that brought a massive smile to my face. I had high hopes for Salacres Polizzi this year , very high hopes indeed. I truly believe that this year she would have been one of the leading staying bitches in this country. She was an impressive winner of the WJ & JE Caerns Memorial Invitation race at Sittingbourne and was earlier in the year a fancied runner in the Produce Stakes Final at Swindon. Unfortunately a terrible , career threatening injury was to put paid to my high hopes when she went badly wrong in a race at Notts at the start of last September. No blame attached to the track , injuries are part and parcel of this sport and indeed any sport. It really was very doubtful that Polly would ever set foot on a race track again , so on Saturday when she destroyed an A5 field and ran like a bitch recovering her shattered confidence , I couldn't have been much more pleased if she'd just won the Oaks Final ! The lads in the Notts racing office have handled her comeback well and i'm sure they'll continue to handle her carefully. She's a long way off the level she was once at , but it was just so pleasing to see her enjoying herself once again on the track.
Monday saw us land a nice treble , Salacres Amalfi was a good winner of his A6 race , followed by that grand old servant to the kennel Battstreet Lena showing that age is no barrier to success when taking her A7 event. Salacres Chip scored his second win in this country after previously scoring in graded company over the sprint trip , he's got tremendous early pace and it was great to see him showing battling qualities over a trip probably a bit too far to hold off Burnpark Sparky by a length.
I'd like to just thank everybody who has kindly signed up to become a member of the Head Case syndicate. He looks a tremendous dog for us to have at the kennel and he'll be running for a very worthy cause that is close to my heart in www.headcase.org.uk , let's hope he brings us a bit of success and i'm sure that all of the syndicate members will enjoy being part of the team here at Salacres kennels. As I type Head Case is on the transporter on his way over to us , he'll be marked up at Notts at the weekend and before we know it he'll be having his qualifying trials. I'd urge anybody with an interest that hasn't yet signed upto the syndicate to do so. Joining details can be found on the front page of the website.
Anyway thanks for reading and check back soon for an update.
