Tuesdays BAGS card can be a tough day to find winners and we managed just the one. Salacres Ray followed up his 5 1/2 length win in the Owners Bonus Series Final with another A2 win , this time leading late to score by a length. Salacres Roberto finished second in his first attempt at A1 grade.
On Thursday Peter set off for Hove with Salacres Roberto and Salacres Pele for 515m maiden opens. Both dogs ran with credit and though not winning there was room for optimism with both.
Fridays card provided 3 runner up spots and just the 1 winner but a very pleasing winner all the same. Salacres Zico is a full brother to Pele who'd ran at Hove the previous night. Both dogs are part of the Ace Hi Rumble x Youraisemeup litter and were purchased from Dessie Loughrey over in Limavady. We have high hopes for both and so it was pleasing to see Zico get his first win under his belt at the third time of asking. He trapped well enough and showed good early pace to take a first bend lead that he never looked like relinquishing to score by 2 lengths in a time of 3066. Not a bad effort for a January 2013 pup. Unfortunately though Zico was to come off from his race lame , the team will be working hard to ensure that he's not off for too long and we can see this dog back on track before too long.
Saturday evening gave us 2 winners. Savana Graham was winning for the third time in six runs here at Nottingham and is proving himself to be a nice dog whilst Salacreslinesman took advantage of trouble on the inside to win his A7 by 1 1/2 lengths.
Onto Monday again and having won at the corresponding fixture the previous week Karma was to double up by landing his A3 event. He's been a really good dog to the kennel and was winning for the 13th time here at Nottingham and amazingly for the 11th time this year. Hopefully he can continue to add to that total in the remainder of the year. He's a gentleman of a dog in the kennel and no trouble at all. Our second and only other winner on the night came in the 480m Puppy Open. It's no secret that we rate Pele highly and after running with credit down at Hove he lined up with a live chance in this race. After the withdrawl of the trap 5 runner it looked a straight match up between Pele and Dave Firmagers run drawn in trap 6. To us at least Pele had the upperhand with his inside berth. Thankfully that proved to be the case. He was well enough away without absolutely flying out and paced up well on the inside of the white jacket , showing bravery beyond his experience he out muscled the 3 dog to take a second bend lead and he really went through the gears to win by 3 lengths. An impressive performance and hopefully with a bit of luck the first of many wins.
Tuesdays meeting saw us end the morning BAGS meeting with just the one winner , but a very impressive winner he was. Hawks Walk trapped better than he has been and after turning a very close second there was only one doubt and that was by how far he'd win. If you've a dog in front then this would be the last dog you'd want to see on your shoulder coming off the second turn. Hawk was in front by the third and pulled away for a 4 length victory.
